The new hotel on Træna, at the farthest point of Norway`s Helgeland coast, located right at the Arctic Circle, will be named Ytri. The Name “Ytri” derived from Old Norse, translates to "outermost point" or "furthest out," capturing the essence of the hotel's unique location - at the edge of the horizon.

Ytri, scheduled to open in spring 2026, will be a high-end landscape hotel featuring 38 rooms and suites, a lounge, bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, co-working space, sauna, wellness area, boathouse, guest harbor, and a sandy beach. The hotel is designed to be a destination in itself, with architecture inspired by the fishing village culture along the coast.

- With Ytri, we aim to showcase the breathtaking location at the very edge of the Helgeland coast," says Moa Björnson, CEO of Træna 365 AS who develops the project. "Here, the open sea is our nearest neighbour, and the next stop is Greenland. The name also communicates the strong contrasts we experience: light and darkness, storm and calm, roughness and comfort.

The name choice is the result of a thorough process led by design agency Bielke&Yang, who conducted interviews and workshops with local residents, visitors, and owners. The name also references the historical name of Træna, which was Tritna. Bielke&Yang has previously developed brands and identities for prominent establishments such as the high-end hotel Sommerro and the Michelin restaurant Maaemo, in Oslo, Norway.

-Ytri will be a truly unique destination. Travellers will come here for authentic experiences, raw nature, encounters with locals, and world-class seafood. It's a distinctive island community with a history dating back to the first settlements in Norway. Guests are guaranteed to create lifelong memories, states Mikael Forselius, chairman of the hotel. Forselius has experience as CEO of 62°Nord Hotels & Adventures in Sunnmøre, Britannia Hotel in Trondheim, and Røros Hotel Group, and knows what it takes to build unique destinations.

Ytri is part of a long-term investment in sustainable tourism in Træna. The company is also building housing and contributing to community development in the small island municipality. They will open their doors in 2026, but before that, they will also recruit a hotel manager, chefs, and world-class service personnel. With the launch of the name and design concept, it becomes even clearer what the hotel will represent.
